THE SAMOSET 30
The Samoset 30 is designed as a “Gentleman’s Day Boat,” perfect for day trips, fishing and pleasure. The individual who buys the Samoset 30 is a boat owner who is looking to add something new or to complement his fleet. Or perhaps one who owns a large sport-fishing boat and is looking for a fuel-efficient boat that doesn’t require a crew to go out on.
The main design requirements were for the Samoset 30 to be stable – at rest and underway – and dry riding. She is entirely built of wood, using the cold molding process in our Boothbay, Maine shop.
The first layer of the hull is one-half inch Honduras pattern grade mahogany. Second, third and fourth layers (fourth on the bottom only) are one-eight inch Spanish cedar set in WEST System epoxy and bagged.
Underway, one has the feel of a wooden boat but without the maintenance of a traditionally built boat, and she is also light and stiff. Lighter weight means optimum fuel economy. Most similar boats have tankerage for 400-600 gallons of fuel compared to 105 gallons for the Samoset 30. The inboard, diesel powered center console will have the same, if not better, range on one-quarter the fuel.
Custom boats do cost more, but the value is higher and is maintained throughout the life of the boat. The Samoset 30 is crafted in the time-honored quality of Maine boat building but with the newest technologies. She is attractively priced for the discriminating buyer.
