BOOTHBAY HARBOR ONE DESIGN
21' One Design Day Sailer |
|
Handsome and refreshingly classic, the Boothbay Harbor One Design 21’ Keel Sloop is both enjoyable and affordable. The deck plan boasts the necessities:
- Two small jibsheet winches
- A simple multi-part mainsheet with traveler.
The ample sail plan delivers ample horsepower with a single working jib.
Thus, large, expensive sheet winches unnecessary – nor is the purchase of an additional headsail.
The sloop features
Ample form stability provided by the rather firm bilges.
- A big and powerful fin keel with its lead ballast concentrated low in the shoe casting to keep the boat on her feet and prevent damage.
- An attached rudder to free itself her from tangling and giving her the ability to turn on a dime.
- Buoyant U-shaped forward sections of the hull for great performance.
The classic, 1938 design comes from Geerd Hendel, chief draftsman for the legendary W. Starling Burgess. Since 2006, the design has been adapted for cold-molded construction and epoxy fiberglass construction. The boat is designed for effortless, enjoyable daysailing as well as one-design racing. An active owners group called the Boothbay Harbor One Design Association supports the class.
Samoset Boatworks is now accepting commissions to build the Boothbay Harbor One Design 21’ Keel Sloop. |
